Are you looking for a trail that will really challenge you? Then you’ll want to lace up your hiking boots and head straight to Robbers Cave State Park.
Located near Wilburton, the park is home to Mountain Trail to Lake Carlton and Lake Wayne Wallace. It’s a cumbersome name for a spectacular hike.
This out-and-back trail measures just about seven miles and is rated as difficult. It will take you through rocky forest terrain and have you scrambling over boulders.
However, the payoff at the top is definitely worth it. You’ll emerge out onto an overlook that provides a stunning view of the water below. It’s truly breathtaking.
This is the perfect spot to rest a while and snap some well-earned photos. You might also want to spread a picnic blanket and have lunch or just sit and soak in the beauty of nature.
Hikers who are afraid of heights need not apply to this trail – the views are spectacular, but you’ll definitely want to make sure you watch where you step and don’t get too close to the edge.
Robbers Cave State Park also features a gorgeous waterfall and plenty of spots to stop and relax, so feel free to explore the rest of the area after you finish with the hike.
