Almost Everything About This Charming Oklahoma Diner Is Straight Out Of The 1950s
What’s better than enjoying a delicious meal in a retro diner? Eating that meal surrounded by old memorabilia right on the Mother Road! Nothing says retro like Old Route 66 and I found this charming diner straight out of the 1950s. Check out Lucille’s Roadhouse located at
1301 North Airport Road in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
The original Lucille's was a gas station built in 1927 right off Route 66 in Hydro and purchased in 1941 by Lucille and Carl Hamons.
They stayed open for business for 51 years and now the original building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Lucille became known as the Mother of the Mother Road and was inducted into the Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Fame in 1999.
The new Lucille's Roadhouse opened in 2006 in western Oklahoma along Old Route 66, and has been satisfying hungry travelers with their delicious food.
From the moment you pull up outside you'll notice the charming retro decor. Check out the vintage cars and gas pumps that are modeled after the original Lucille's Station in Hyrdro.
The interior has many sections, but step into the diner and you'll be taken back to the 1950s.
The Route 66 theme can be seen all throughout the diner. The vinyl seating, counter stools, polished chrome and colored lighting will whisk you away to a simpler time.
The menu offers a variety of authentic diner food options. Start off with a stack of pancakes smothered in butter and sweet syrup.
Or enjoy hand-breaded chicken fried steak, homemade mashed potatoes and gravy or a side of fries.
And there's nothing more satisfying to a cold traveler than a warm bowl of chili!
Pick up some souvenirs in the gift shop and take a piece of Lucille's home with you. The t-shirts are a fan favorite and a great memory of this Route 66 diner.
Lucille's also features an upscale steakhouse if you're looking to dine in modern times. It may not take you back to the 1950s, but you'll enjoy the food just as much as the diner side.
