The One Hike In Oklahoma That Makes You Feel Like You've Landed In A Jungle

With 11 different eco-regions in the Sooner State, the topography is about as diverse as you can get. Even though we don’t have a technical “jungle” hiding away in the state, we do have a few areas that feel like one. There’s a heavily canopied forest in southern Oklahoma that’s full of lush, green scenery and if you take Skyline Trail – an 11.6-mile loop trail in Beavers Bend State Park – you’ll feel like you’ve landed in one of these jungles.
Skyline Trail is an 11.6-mile moderately trafficked loop trail in Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow.
The trailhead is located on the east side of Mountain Fork River. It is labeled as David Boren/Cedar Bluff not Skyline, across from the Dogwood Campground. (Please note: the Skyline Bridge is not accessible at this time.)
You'll love all the scenic views along the path. The elevation reaches over 1,900 feet, so you'll get a bird's eye view of the surrounding areas when there's an opening in the trees.
The trail is recommended for experienced hikers, as there are many hills to navigate. Bring a walking stick along because you'll need it. It's the perfect hike to take in summer because 90% of the trail is shaded.
On top of climbing steep hills and hiking long distances, there's a river and small creeks that you'll need to navigate across. Be prepared to get a little wet (one more reason you'll feel like you're in a jungle).
