15 Photos Of Oklahoma From The Early 1900s That Are Beyond Fascinating

There’s so much history within the borders of Oklahoma, and we love featuring old photos when we come across them. The Oklahoma Historical Society has an incredible collection of photos from the early 1900s that are beyond fascinating. Here’s a look at 15 of them, along with their original captions:

1. The town of Beaver in 1905. It began as a halfway stop on the Jones and Plummer Trail.

2. Farm west of Comanche, Oklahoma, c. 1921.

3. Line workers in Perkins install Payne County’s first telephone system, 1906.

4. Rural School District No. 35 near Arapaho, 1910.

5. Picher was "born overnight" and developed around the lead and zinc ore strike on Harry Crawfish’s allotment. Photo taken in 1920.

6. The original caption for this photo postcard reads: "$1,000,000 Creosote Factory, Hugo, Okla." Postmarked date of September 1, 1908.

7. "After it had been poured out" - Disposal of liquor in front of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, 1921.

8. Main Street Sayre, 1903. The community served as a shipping point for cotton, wheat, corn, and livestock.

9. An oil field fire destroyed several gas wells and storage tanks near Drumright. It was reported that the fire was caused by lightning. Photo taken in 1914.
