Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to give up hiking because of the heat. There’s an ancient forest in northeastern Oklahoma that offers three hiking trails, lots and lots of shade, and beautiful scenery for an epic hiking experience. The trails are only open on select days, so you’ll want to plan your trip accordingly – but it’s definitely worth a visit to this enchanting nature spot.
Keystone Ancient Forest is located in Sand Springs in northeastern Oklahoma. It's a hidden gem that not many people know about and truly a historic place to visit.
This ancient forest is only open on select Saturdays. Please check the link at the bottom of this article for dates open to the public. Please be aware, if you show up when it's not open, the gates will be closed and you'll have to return at a later date.
There are maps with trail guides at the trailhead if you have any questions or need assistance. The trails are in the middle of a forest, so there is ample shade to help keep you cool in summer.
All the trails are self guided with the exception of a few special events. But don't worry, there are plenty of trail maps and signs, so you'll always know where to go.
