Oklahomans are fabulous people and if you are lucky enough to date one, then there are a few things you will want to know ahead of time. We know dating can be a challenge as it is, but if you walk into a date being a big talker, who thinks he/she can wing it…us Okies will send you right back out the door you came in.  We are laid back, genuine people who like honesty, integrity and to have a good time. Here are a few things to know when dating someone from the Sooner state:

1. They probably won't be vegetarians.

A good steak is a favorite in the Sooner state. Even the ladies aren't shy to order red meat instead of a salad. This is cattle country and we can also grill up a mouthwatering one.
2. They will probably own firearms.

We believe in the right to bear arms, so don't be shocked if they are carrying a gun on their hip or in their purse.
3. Their family probably attends church, so don't bash it.

Remember we are in the "Bible Belt" around here, which means don't plan on a Sunday morning date unless it is at the church house.
4. She will know somebody who knows somebody, who will tell her ALL about you.

Oklahoma might seem big with a population around 3.8 million, but believe me somehow everybody is connected.
5. They are genuine people .

Oklahomans are as real as it gets and they like the same. There is no faking it with Okies. They can spot an impostor from a mile away.
6. They will be one of these...

You must know which football team you are a fan of because you can't be neutral or both. If you are an OU fan, then you wear crimson, are a Sooner and love Norman. If you are an OSU fan, then you wear orange, are a Cowboy and love Stillwater.
7. There will be no wedding in the fall on a Saturday.

We are avid, college football fans and our friends will hate us if we plan our wedding on a game day.
8. You must love the lake and outdoor activities.

There are a ton of lakes in Oklahoma and our summer activities always involve something at the lake. You must like swimming, boating, rafting, canoeing, fishing or skiing.
9. They are goofy and like to have a good time.

We are laid-back, simple and a bit goofy at times. Sometimes we feel landlocked and let our emotions show in funny ways.
10. They are traditional.
