Who’s ready to see the beautiful fall colors that will be emerging in a few short weeks? Oklahoma is about to transform into a wildly colorful state as vibrant hues change the landscape. It will be a beautiful sight, but if you want to see the best fall foliage, follow this dreamy road trip we mapped out below. You’ll begin in northeastern Oklahoma, travel south, then head to the central portion of the state. The whole trip will take you over a little over 600 miles, so plan ahead and book a weekend away to enjoy the beauty of autumn.
Start out your trip in Miami and head south on Highway 59 and eventually Highway 10. Travel through Grand Lake and Honey Creek State Park as you pass through the beautiful hills of northeastern Oklahoma.
If you stay on Highway 10 you'll come to the stunning Lake Tenkiller.The drive around the lake is full of rolling hills that will be full of lush fall foliage. You can drive around the lake and check out the area or continue onto the next destination.
The hardwood trees and pines that decorate this area will be breathtaking during the autumn season. The beautiful hues of the San Bois Mountains are beyond captivating.
The most spectacular part of this road trip is the Talimena National Scenic Byway - a 54-mile route that winds you throughout the Ouachita National Forest. Make sure to have your camera ready for this drive and look for the turnouts to stop and capture the incredible views.
Next, you'll head south to Beavers Bend State Park, one of the most beautiful places in the state. This magical place is full of areas to view the bold colors of fall. The best time to view the fall colors are October and November.
Your next destination will be the town of Sulphur - home to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Known as the "Oasis in the Prairie," this area is full of waterfalls, streams, lakes and with the added colors the fall, the area looks breathtaking.
Just a short drive down from Sulphur is Turner Falls Park in the stunning Arbuckle Mountains. The 77-ft. waterfall will be surrounded by spectacular fall colors and is a must-see this time of year.
Your last stop will land you at Red Rock Canyon State Park. The red canyon walls are accentuated when the bold colors of fall surround this gorgeous place.
