Here in Ohio, you don’t have to hike very long or very far to explore an ancient cave with a fascinating history and ancient mysteries. The Rock House in Hocking Hills State Park is a hiking destination that belongs at the top of your Ohio bucket list. If you’ve yet to explore this gem, you need to do so this summer.

The beloved Rock House is an above ground cave with a 25 ft. high ceiling and massive window-like openings that hikers are free to explore—and it will seriously make you feel like Indiana Jones.

You'll find it along State Route 374 Logan, OH 43138.
Since the trail is only 1/4 of a mile long, you'll hike a total of 0.5 miles to the cave and back.

Depending on how often you stop, you'll spend about 30 minutes to an hour on this trail.
Once you get to the base of the 150-ft. cliff that the cave is connected to, you'll find steps leading the way up, which can be slightly strenuous if you're not used to hiking a lot.

The closer you get to the top, the more your anticipation builds...
As you're making your way up, it's intriguing to imagine who once climbed up these rocks over the years.

Evidence shows that the homey Rock House was often used for shelter by past visitors, Native Americans and even bootleggers, robbers and horse thieves.
Walking through the Rock House feels like you've temporarily stepped foot into another world. The window-like openings are beautiful.

(But they can be a little unsettling if you're afraid of heights.)
The view from the overlook at the end of the Rock House is absolutely stunning, (which some brave souls get really close to.)
