This One Small Ohio Town Has More Outdoor Attractions Than Any Other Place In The State
Sometimes, a getaway in nature is just what you need.
Here in Ohio, we have several
beautiful towns that deserve a second look. However, between the gorgeous scenery, frontier history and nature activities, the small town of Loudonville just might have more outdoor attractions than any other place in the state. You’ll find it tucked away in the heart of Mohican Country—and one visit here will having you coming back year-round.
With a population of about 2,600, this small town is the perfect place for a quiet day trip or weekend away in nature.
Downtown, you'll find plenty of local shops and restaurants. (We recommend lunching at Hanover House Diner.)
History is beautifully preserved in Loudonville. Pictured is the Workman Cabin in Central Park, which features period-authentic home goods and showcases life on the frontier.
You'll also find The Cleo Red Fisher Museum, which is full of exhibits and information about the area's fascinating frontier, industrial and forest history. It's a must-see when you're in town.
Outdoor activities are especially popular here.
You can rent a kayak, canoe and even tubes at the Loudonville Canoe Livery and River Room.
Mohican Adventures is another great option for camping, canoeing and other outdoor activities.
It's located at 3045-3058 St. Rt. 3, South Loudonville, OH 44842.
The epic Ariel Park at Mohican Adventures takes the concept of an obstacle course to a whole other level—literally.
With four different courses, there's something for everyone at every skill level here.
But if you're not up for a water or treetop adventure, a hike through Mohican State Park is an experience you won't soon forget, as it's truly one of the most beautiful state parks in Ohio.
Cabins, cottages and primitive camping sites are available.
In addition to hiking trails, you'll find more than 22 miles of bride trails and 25 miles of mountain biking trails within the park.

If you're up for it, a hike to Big Lyons Falls (pictured) is a must. The hike is a moderate to difficult, 2-mile round trip.
You'll find the trailhead at the covered bridge and the dam.
The covered bridge within the park extends over the Mohican River. It's a popular sight for locals and visitors alike.
It makes a beautiful photo opportunity. <3
Also within the park, you'll find Wolf Creek Gist Mill, which dates back to 1831. You can tour the historic mill and its surrounding reconstructed 1800s log cabins.
