Downtown Lebanon is classic Americana at its finest: well-maintained old buildings, century-old houses, diners, and lots of downtown charm.
The Shakers were one of the city's earliest influencers and traces of their heritage can still be found in the city. By 1802, the city was surveyed and mapped out, though the Lebanon of today still looks very much like the Lebanon of yesteryear.

How To Get To Lebanon
Located right along Ohio's Interstate 71, Lebanon is an easy trip from Midwest cities like Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and even Louisville and Lexington. Yet despite its central location, Lebanon remains a bit of a hidden gem to those outside Southwest Ohio, making it a weekend getaway destination that will feel like your very own delightful discovery.

Getting Around Lebanon
Like many small towns in Ohio, Lebanon is an incredibly walkable locale, with sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and many restaurants, shops, and attractions in and around the historic downtown district.
However, as you can see from the Google Map, both of these outliers are conveniently located off major highways and no more than a 20-minute drive from Lebanon.
Best Time To Visit Lebanon
With four distinct seasons (something for which Southwest Ohio prides itself!), Lebanon really is a natural beauty all year. But there's something extra special about visiting Lebanon during the holiday season, in which the town dazzles with twinkling lists, red-and-green wreaths, and loads of festivals ... and festive fun! In fact, if you're looking for your very own Hallmark holiday movie experience, visit during the annual Lebanon Horse Drawn Carriage Parade, an event bursting with holiday spirit and cheer.

It was originally situated halfway between Cincinnati and the National Road (now U.S. Route 40), making it the perfect resting spot for travelers. More than 200 years later, it continues to attract visitors and locals alike who wish to get a taste of both the history and the incredible food of the Golden Lamb. The Inn at the Golden Lamb has 17 overnight rooms that are well-appointed with modern comforts *and* beautifully decorated with winsome antiques ... and possibly a ghostly spirit or two.
The Golden Lamb, you see, has a bit of a history ... and not the kind you typically read in history books! Politician Clement L. Vallandingham accidentally killed himself within the Inn, and the father of General William T. Sherman also died suddenly on the property. Since then, there have been many reported sightings of both men — many, many years after they passed away. One other common ghost story is that of Henry Clay's daughter, Eliza, who died of an illness at the Inn and was buried far from her Lexington home. She, like the ghostly gentlemen mentioned above, also seems to love The Golden Lamb.

When looking for things to do in Lebanon, Glendower Mansion is a town icon that's worth seeking out. Harkening back to 1835-1840, the hillside manor is noted as "one of the finest examples of Residential Greek Revival architecture style in the Midwest." In addition to touring its stunning halls, the grounds are equally resplendent, and, depending on when you visit, you might even catch part of a historical reenactment!

It's 100 acres of beautiful mounds that were used for protection, ceremonies, functional, and social purposes a long, long time ago. There are indoor and outdoor museums at Fort Ancient, but the main attraction here is, of course, the earthworks: a series of large, man-made, hand-built mounds. Since we will be dining there tomorrow night, we recommend going for one of Black Horse's more casual menu items, like the Original Sticky Burger! This burger behemoth features house-made peanut butter, bacon, bbq, sharp cheddar, garlic aÏoli, and crispy onions, and is the kind of pub grub of which dreams are made!
Morning Two: Amusement Parks And Ice Cream

Lebanon is located in Warren County, known officially as "Ohio's Largest Playground." As such, it's only appropriate we visit the most famous "playground" in Warren County (and Ohio!) and one of the best activities near Lebanon: Kings Island!
Roller coaster enthusiasts will flip (literally!) for legendary rides such as The Beast, Orion, and Diamondback, while families can check out Planet Snoopy and the park's classic rides, like the carousel and old-time-y Kings Mills Antique Autos.

In addition to the Golden Lamb, Lebanon is well-known in Ohio as the home of the eponymous Lebanon Mason Monroe (LM&M) Railroad.

For most trips, the LM&M train runs 4.4 miles south from Lebanon Station in downtown Lebanon to historic Hageman Junction, then back to the station, making for a scenic, two-hour afternoon adventure that's, as Goldilocks would say, "just right." For families, themed rides throughout the year take the LM&M experience to the next level, from character excursions featuring Curious George and The Cat in the Hat to seasonal events like the Easter Bunny Express and Polar Express.
The iconic restaurant and inn is the oldest continuously operating business in Ohio, having opened in 1803.
If you haven't run into any of the "ghosts" haunting the Inn, you might have a chance encounter in the restaurant, whose menu is so tantalizing that many an unsettled spirit has tried to partake!
