We Bet You Didn’t Know There Was A Miniature Niagara Falls In Ohio

Without a doubt, Niagara Falls is the most famous waterfall in the country. The first state park designated in the United States, Niagara Falls State Park attracts some 30 million visitors each year and is a true American icon. Draining Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the falls — technically a set of three cascades — are one of the most powerful on the continent, with six million cubic feet of water flowing every minute. Today’s adventure is admittedly *not* Niagara Falls, but that doesn’t make this waterfall in Ohio any less amazing. Hailed as the Miniature Niagara Falls of the Buckeye State, the 37-foot Charleston Falls is a commanding cascade and one of the most wondrous waterfalls in Ohio.

This waterfall right here? It's *not* Niagara Falls. It's *not* 167 feet tall. It's *not* comprised of three thunderous cascades. And it's *not* situated along the border of New York and Ontario.

But guess what? We happen to think this wondrous waterfall in Ohio is just as splendid as its New York rival.

This beauty? It's Charleston Falls, a 37-foot waterfall known as a Miniature Niagara Falls... in Ohio!

It's located in the eponymous Charleston Falls Preserve in little old Tipp City, Ohio -- and boy, is it a natural wonder worth seeking out!

There are 3.74 miles of trail at this Ohio preserve, and visitors are encouraged to refer to the trail map and essentially "choose their own adventure."

Charleston Falls Preserve is the perfect place to hike and view wildlife -- and with less than four miles of trails, it's definitely doable to explore the entire park in a day. As you wind through the forest preserve, keep an eye out for uncommon plants such as wild columbine, walking fern, purple cliff break and rock honeysuckle -- as well as numerous striking rock formations and...

...the waterfall! Originating from small underground springs several miles to the east, Charleston Falls plummets 37 feet on its meandering journey to the Great Miami River. It's viewable from a lovely boardwalk; both park and trails are open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to sunset.

The falls' might and grandeur has earned it the moniker "Miniature Niagara" and indeed, it's a title well-earned!

Did you know there was a Miniature Niagara Falls in Ohio? Charleston Falls might not have the size of its New York sibling, but what it lacks in stature it more than makes up for in scenic splendor.
