Wintertime is a magical time. If you look past the difficult driving conditions and snow shoveling, you’ll notice that it’s one of the most beautiful times of the year in Ohio. To take in some winter beauty this year, consider hiking at your favorite park or heading to the shores to get some stunning photographs.

A frozen Lake Erie during the winter months is an unbelievably stunning sight to behold, especially when the wind and crashing waves create gorgeous ice sculptures along the shore.

This hiking trail is stunning no matter what season, but during the colder months it transforms into a real life winter wonderland you have to see to believe. The 53rd Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike will take place on January 20 at 9 a.m. It's a 6-mile group hike from Old Man's Cave to Ash Cave.

The beloved Clifton Gorge is unbelievably beautiful in the winter. Observe frozen falls, unique rock formations, and stunning snow covered trees within the Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve near the charming small town of Yellow Springs.

Mad River Mountain in Zanesfield, Ohio features all the wintertime fun you could possibly want — and then some. It’s the largest ski and tubing resort in Ohio, featuring 144 acres. (And since they can make their own snow here, it's probably the closest thing we have to our own North Pole.)

This semi-secret urban waterfall is a beautiful spot to visit in the winter when it has frozen. You'll find it at 4326 Hayden Run Rd., Dublin, OH 43017.

Ohio's very own national park is also breathtakingly beautiful during the winter months. Pictured is Blue Hen Falls, which frequently freezes over in the winter months.

Taking the Amish Country Scenic Byway during the winter is a special experience. Along the way, you might even see snow rollers (pictured), which is a rare meteorological phenomenon that occurs when large snowballs are formed naturally via wind.
