What The Freezing Cold Just Created On Lake Erie Is Majestic

A frozen Lake Erie is one thing. Frozen ice sculptures (and cars!) along the shore are another.

In years past, it hasn’t been uncommon to see ice form around some objects such as lighthouses and rocks—and frozen waves during the winter months are expected. This year, however, something truly magical is forming along the shores of Lake Erie.

This year, the freezing temperatures, powerful winds and crashing waves are combining to create some really unique ice sculptures around anything and everything in the crashing wave’s path.  The captivating sculptures have formed around poles, railings and other nearby structures, luring local photographers out to capture the sparkling, majestic sculptures on camera.

Watch the video below for more detail on exactly how these sculptures form:

In addition to these beautiful sculptures, an unlucky Mitsubishi Lancer in Hamburg, New York found itself completely frozen in the parking lot of a restaurant on Lake Erie. Imagine coming back to your parked car after a meal only to find it completely submerged in ice. Yikes!
