You’ll Never Forget This Incredible Weekend Road Trip In Ohio
In spite of what you might think, there’s a lot to see and do in Ohio. While our big cities certainly offer plenty of entertainment, fine dining and other sights to see, the in-between areas of the state are hiding some road trip worthy destinations as well. From unique places to stay to beautiful roadside scenery, Ohio has some truly special places tucked away along the less-traveled roads. Here’s one example of an incredible weekend road trip in Ohio that you won’t forget:
The total, round-trip drive time is only about four hours—but the stops along the way will keep you busy for hours. (To view the Google Map in a separate window, click here.)
1. Wine and dine at the Tuscan inspired Gervasi Vineyard.
Friday night, begin your weekend adventure with a delicious Italian dinner, local wines and some truly unique overnight accommodations. Canton is home to this upscale Tuscan inspired inn housing six Gervasi Villas, each comprised of four individual suites. This beautiful Italian getaway also (appropriately) features an Italian restaurant and winery on site. Ohio's favorite Italian getaway is located at 1700 55th St NE, Canton, Ohio 44721.
Head up towards Akron and have lunch at a truly one of a kind restaurant. At the Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, you'll find this hidden gem, which features a casual atmosphere, stunning views of the river rapids and falls and floor to ceiling windows. Beau's on the River is located at 1989 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
This elaborate country estate in Akron is one of the largest homes in the U.S. An accredited museum of the American Alliance of Museums, this estate is open to the public for tours and other events and features five historic buildings, eight gardens and 70 acres.
After a day of exploring an extravagant mansion, drive a little more than an hour to the beautiful Mohican area for a night in whimsical castle. Located in Loudonville, this little getaway features murder mystery dinners and other amenities sure to make you feel like the king/queen of the castle.
5. Pack a picnic lunch and explore Mohican State Park.
After a light breakfast at the castle, drive just 10 minutes away for an inspiring Sunday morning and early afternoon adventure at the beautiful Mohican State Park. This popular park and its 4,525-acre forest features several hiking trails that lead to attractions such as Pine Run Creek, the Fire Tower and Clearfork Gorge. (Pictured: Big Lyons Falls, a 300-foot deep sandstone gorge with two beautiful waterfalls.)
End your weekend with a scenic drive through a portion of Ohio's Amish Country. Stop for dinner along the way before retuning home. We recommend the Amish Door Restaurant, pictured above. Set in an oversized Amish style home that has a seating capacity of 450, this restaurant is located in Wilmont. Guests can also choose to have a full family sized Amish style meal prepared instead of individual orders. Amish Door is located at 1210 Winesburg St., Wilmot, OH 44689.
