Some animals have it pretty good – treated like one of the family, pampered, and loved to bits. Many more animals, especially farm animals, face lives of unbearable pain, abuse, and neglect. We don’t often hear, in fact, about the plight of farm animals. When you tour this farm animal sanctuary in Ohio, you’ll get to meet some of those rescued farm animals, each of whom has his/her own name and personality.
Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna provides a safe place for "criminally neglected and abused" farm animals, where they can heal and find loving homes.
The farm sanctuary, which has been rescuing farm animals since 2000, welcomes visitors for a tour to meet the animals. Tours are offered annually from June through the end of October.
Some of the animals you'll meet include Amelia, the adorable pink farm pig who was rescued from a testing center at a university. (She's up for adoption, too, and loves her piggy friends.)
Abigail, on the other hand, was saved from a cock fighting ring in 2016 and is currently up for adoption. Winning her heart takes little more than a few treats and kind words.
Tours are held Friday and Saturday at 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. You can also make a reservation for Sunday when tours leave at 12:45 p.m. and 3 p.m.
