If You Live In Cleveland, You Must Visit This Amazing State Park
There are hidden pockets of natural beauty scattered all over northeast Ohio. From Cleveland’s very own Metroparks to the massive Cuyahoga Valley National Park to the east, the great outdoors have an intimate relationship with the Forest City and the people who live there. As this out-of-this-world state park shows, you don’t have to travel far from Cleveland to see the natural world in all its glory.
Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park is a small, 167-acre state park that is only a 45-minute drive from Cleveland, but it feels like a whole new world.
The park is best known for its incredible natural sandstone cliff formations, honed over thousands of years of erosion and weathering into incredible organic art.
The cliffs are a simply stunning sight, as you can see how millennia of weather erosion have shaped these giant blocks into some truly incredible formations.
In addition to its iconic sandstone ledges, Nelson-Kennedy is home to an amazing biome of unique trees and other flora that you won't normally find in northeast Ohio, like yellow birch and Canada yew.
The park offers four different trails of varying length and difficulty for you to explore all it has to offer. Since the rock ledges can be so steep, it's not recommended that you step off the beaten path, but there is so much beauty packed into each trail that you won't need to.
From watching mini waterfalls cascade down over the sheer ledges to exploring the magical forest surrounding the stones, there's something in Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park for every kind of nature lover.
