Shaker Heights is a Cleveland suburb in Cuyahoga County that's downright fascinating.
As the name implies, this community was something of a utopia to the Shaker people that settled in back in 1822. The Shakers, also known as the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, were pacifist, egalitarian, and, unfortunately for their legacy, celibate. Today, Shaker Heights is home to around 28,500 residents and some very fascinating stories.
This area is overflowing with history, and it is fascinating to explore.
Pictured here is the Shaker Mill Stone, a marker situated on the foundation of the town's old sawmills. It has been in the area since 1947, and a number of other places of interest (including the Honoring the Memory of O.P. and M.J. Van Sweringen monument and The Shaker Parklands) are within walking distance of this historic marker.
If you've never heard of Little Fires Everywhere, you are in for a treat. This 2017 novel by Celeste Ng offers an intriguing look at local life in the 1990s... and a juicy drama that grows out of it.

The book has since been adapted into a Hulu series, which debuted in March of 2020.
The series, which consists of eight episodes in total, stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. These women are mothers from different walks of life, but their stories, viewers will discover, are intertwined.
Though it was filmed in Hollywood, the set feels authentic to Shaker Heights' unique atmosphere.
The creative team really did an excellent job in designing the set, and viewers can easily believe that they are taking a virtual visit to none other than Shaker Heights, Ohio. There's even snow!
