Most People Don’t Know This Enchanting Metro Park Near Cleveland Even Exists
Northeast Ohio is covered in spectacular parks, which has given many locals an unquenchable craving for outdoor adventure. Clevelanders in particular are lucky, because from the shores of the lake right through the quaint and quiet suburbs, they have an impressive number of nature preserves and parks awaiting their visit. There are many lovely places within an hour of Cleveland that are worth exploring, but this one enchanting park tops the list.
The story of this enchanting park dates back to the 1930s.
In the 30s, John Renner and his family were just settling into their cabin in what is now Munroe Falls Metro Park. Their lake, however, was attracting swimmers. To discourage trespassers, the Renner family began charging them 10 cents per visit.
Instead of discouraging visitors, a spark of inspiration was born. John carved out a 13 acre lake and named the area Renner Park, which became a cherished swimming spot in the area.
In 1978, that legacy of fun was inherited by the Summit Metro Parks when they purchased the 222 acres from the family.
In 2007, an adjacent property that had once hosted the County Home was acquired by the Summit Metro Parks, expanding the landscape where locals love to get lost in thought.
The park has more than doubled in size in the last decade, offering visitors many acres of beauty to take in.
As the park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., it is easy to enjoy a sunset then hike back to the car. Don't forget to bring a flashlight and a buddy with you whenever you visit a park after sunset!
During the autumn, the lake area is particularly enchanting.
Trees like black gum, sassafras, and tulip light up the landscape with an impressive diversity of fall colors. The lake reflects these colors with the contrasting blue sky, making it a positively magical time to visit.
When the weather turns chilly, the park becomes an incredible place to start the day.
Take a moment to imagine this scene: it's a winter morning, freshly fallen snow still glimmers on the frozen branches of the surrounding forest. The dawn light makes the untouched snow sparkle brilliantly.
Witnessing the settled snow shimmering early in the morning always creates a magical scene at this park.
If you are looking for a change of scenery, you've just found your perfect park, because there are few others like it.
There is much to love at this charming park. From its natural biodiversity to the surrounding community, Munroe Falls is a amazing area that’s too close to home to not visit.
