1. The Cheese Shop (West Side Market)
One of the finest places to acquire cheese in Cleveland is, unsurprisingly, the diverse and historic West Side Market. This epic destination features both domestic and international foods, and the same is true for this charming cheese stand. You'll encounter more than 175 cheeses, both common and rare, at this one-stop-cheese-shop.
2. Grandpa's Cheesebarn (668 US-250, Ashland)
Ashland is a lovely and historic community on the border of the Mohican Wilderness, and it beckons to adventurers of all ages. The landscape also hides an iconic structure true Ohioans know and love: Grandpa's Cheesbarn. This dreamy destination features delicious cheeses, meats, and even candies, allowing you to stock up on a smorgasbord of wondrous flavors. This icon has served the area since 1978, though the family's cheese legacy had already impacted the area well before that landmark year.
3. Heini's Cheese Chalet (6005 Co. Hwy. 77, Millersburg)
Amish Country is abundant with farmland. Cows are a common sight, and these local creatures produce the milk for the cheese produced at Heini's. During your visit, you'll enjoy an unprecedented peek into the world of cheese production, as well as a free sampling of more than 50 varieties of cheese.
4. Guggisberg Cheese Factory (5060 State Route 557, Millersburg)
Guggisberg, believe it or not, is a name that many throughout the country may recognize. It was here that baby swiss was invented. This one true holey cheese is, to this day, the best baby swiss recipe in the country. During your visit, you'll enjoy a glimpse into the process of cheese making and snack on a great sampling of local cheese.
5. Walnut Creek Cheese (2641 State Route 39, Walnut Creek)
While Walnut Creek is home to a mere 600 people, more than 10,000 visitors flock to this store each week. Why is that? Well, this diverse destination showcases the most delicious parts of Amish Country, and you'll be able to sample a variety of foods, many of which are prepared on-site.
6. Old Brooklyn Cheese Company (4138 Pearl Rd., Cleveland)
From the outside, the storefront appears just like any other on Pearl Road in Cleveland. However, its interior is downright heavenly. Since 2016, this tasty shop has served the area as one of two licensed cheesemakers in the county. During your visit, you'll find local, domestic, and imported cheese in great abundance, as well as other delicious goods like olive oil, jams, honey, and cured meats that are best served with a rich glass of wine.
