Cleveland is an old city. There are lifetime’s worth of stories surrounding just about every street, but what some people don’t realize is that Cleveland’s history extends far below what we see out our windows. This unsettling abandoned underground complex rests beneath the Detroit-Superior Bridge, and exploring it today is a fascinating (if creepy) journey through time.

The Detroit-Superior Underground Subway station began operation as a streetcar station in 1917, and closed down in 1954.

Once a year, the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works opens the long-abandoned derelict station to the public.

The station is in shockingly good condition after being run down for over 60 years.
