9 Ways Cleveland Has Received Recognition In 2017
While 2018 promises to be the best year yet, 2017 was still a great one for Cleveland. What is perhaps most memorable about 2017 was that it was the year that Cleveland was recognized by a national audience for the spectacular city that it is. Many organizations and publications all across the country have praised Cleveland in the recent past, and we think that’s worth celebrating. Your heart will swell with hometown pride when you discover the fantastic ways that Cleveland has received recognition over the past year.
1. Cleveland was named one of the
Best of The World by National Geographic Traveler.
Cleveland's melting pot of ethnic communities, artists, musicians, and dreamers earned it international acclaim when National Geographic Traveler recognized it in the culture category. Our industrial city is undergoing a cultural shift, and things are looking bright here in The Land. We Clevelanders think the honor is well deserved, as we are the best location in the nation!
2. Cleveland was named as one of the nation's most popular cities in
Travel + Leisure's annual "America's Favorite Places" survey.
We made the top 20, proving that Clevelanders are overflowing with pride for their hometown.
3. That same survey found that Clevelanders are among the friendliest people in the nation.
Though we're on the edge of the Midwest, Clevelanders exude Midwestern charm and warmth. We're a big city with a small town attitude, so of course we're going to be friendly! On this list, we came in at the 14th friendliest city in the nation. Not too shabby!
4. It also found that Cleveland is one of the top five most underrated cities in the nation.

The Travel Channel applauded our super cool ice skating rink in Public Square.

Our economic environment makes the city a great place to launch a new business, particularly if it is a health-tech and high-tech company. The article also notes that the cost of living here is significantly lower than that of comparable cities.

Out of 25 cities in the nation, Cleveland was listed as the ninth best for individuals seeking their dream job.
The Los Angeles Times challenged our "mistake on the lake" misnomer.
In mid-July, author Fran Golden described Cleveland as "cool," noting the booming food and art scenes, as well as the revitalization of entire neighborhoods and districts.
