The Little Known Observation Deck In Cincinnati With The Most Sweeping City Views
Even if you’ve only lived in Cincinnati for a short time, surely you know of the Carew Tower downtown. Once the tallest building in the city (Great American Tower, built in 2011, now holds that distinction), this incredible building is one of the most recognizable in Cincinnati’s famous skyline. But have you ever been to the top? Surprisingly, most Cincinnatians have not, but it’s something you’ll definitely want to check out for the gorgeous sweeping views of the city.
Built in 1930, Carew Tower soars above Vine Street and the other buildings in downtown Cincinnati.
You've likely walked past this tower and possibly looked up, but have you ever walked through the doors? If you do, you can take an elevator and stairs up to the 49th floor for incredible views of the city.
When you enter through the revolving door, you'll immediately notice the art deco decor and unique design. It's definitely a contrast, yet supplement to the exterior.
Follow signs to the Observation Deck elevator and from there you can ride to the 45th floor. From that point, you may choose to ride small 4-person elevator the rest of the way or walk up 4 flights of stairs. If you do take the elevator, you'll find one more stairwell to get to the deck.
The views from the top are breathtaking. You can enjoy 360-degree views if you walk around the entire observation deck. You'll tower above the other buildings that will now seem small compared to their street level appearance.
If you look to the west, you'll see the winding Ohio River and west suburbs of the city. You'll likely be able to point out recognizable areas, but some findings might surprise you in how they appear from above.
You'll certainly want to take some change to use the viewers that are scattered around the deck. See how many landmarks you can find, check out the inside of Paul Brown Stadium, and don't forget to look down just once to get a perspective of just how high up you are.
The tower occasionally closes due to maintenance or bad weather, so you might want to call ahead of time. Cost is $2 for those 12 and up and $1 for children 6 - 11, and payment is allowed by cash only. Ages 5 and under are free. If you've never been atop this Cincinnati landmark tower, plan a visit soon for the most sweeping views of the Queen City.
