Mt. Storm Is A Beautiful Hidden Park In Cincinnati

We are so lucky to have the Cincinnati Parks system, which beautifully maintains historic properties, as well as provides new places for us to play, relax, and be outside. Within the city limits, you’ll find every type of park imaginable, but there’s one hidden gem that’s so worth seeking out. Mt. Storm Park is tucked away in a historic neighborhood in Clifton, and unless you were looking for it, you’d probably never know it was there. This tiny park has a wonderful history, beautiful views, and provides a natural oasis in the heart of the city.

Mt. Storm is a 57-acre park located on a hillside in historic Clifton. The land was once the property and home of Robert Bowler, a dry goods entrepreneur and one-time Mayor of Clifton in the 1800s.

Bowler's 1846 Victorian mansion was unfortunately razed in 1917, leaving just a few remnants of the impressive structure. The home that once hosted the Prince of Wales and Charles Dickens may have been torn down, but we do still have the sprawling land to enjoy.

The park has a stunning view of Clifton and the Mill Creek Valley and you can take it all in from the Pavilion. It was completed in 1935 and was designed by Samuel Hannaford & Sons, which also designed Music Hall, among other landmarks.

The Temple of Love on the park's property is the only remaining piece of Robert Bowler’s estate. The Temple was designed in 1845 by Adolph Strauch, who also designed Spring Grove Cemetery. The restoration efforts and ornate details are a brilliant work of art that you can experience in the park.

Mt. Storm's location makes sense if you know that it was a former home, but as you drive through a Clifton residential neighborhood, it sneaks up on you. Pay attention to the castle-like towers and other architectural wonders as you drive along LaFayette Avenue.

In addition to its history, Mt. Storm is known for its views. There is a small playground, picnic tables, and benches scattered around the park to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Mt. Storm is also a popular spot in the winter after a big snow storm. Anyone nearby knows it has the best sledding hill in the area, so you'll often find thrill-seekers here on the coldest of Cincinnati nights.

Mt. Storm Park is a historic gem perched on a hilltop overlooking our city. It's incredible to think someone once called this home, and we are lucky to have it all to ourselves to experience today.
