Withrow Nature Preserve on Five Mile Road is known for its unique outdoor wedding location, but its beautiful Trout Lily trail should be just as popular.
The land was formerly owned by the Withrow family and thankfully it is now preserved by Great Parks of Hamilton County. The trail within the park is a scenic 1.7-mile hike that is fairly easy and filled with diverse landscapes.
The trail is beautiful year round and is all gravel, dirt, or grass pathways.
These paths are wide and easy to maneuver, but it would be difficult to navigate with a stroller or wheelchair. Along the hike, you'll walk through a thick forest with beautiful wildflowers in the spring and vibrant color in the fall. The walk through a wide-open meadow is also unique and enchanting.
One of the highlights of this trail is where it leads you.
You'll reach an open area with two benches, which happen to overlook a lovely view of the winding Ohio River. It may not be a sweeping view, but the peek down into the valley is just enough and makes it feel like you've stumbled upon a secret place. It's an ideal spot for a picnic or just to sit and relax.
This preserved land is naturally magical and a perfect little getaway into nature close to the city.
Don't forget about all of the hidden parks and trails that can be found throughout Cincinnati and give the Trout Lily Trail a try the next time you want an unforgettable outdoor experience.
