I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
There’s nothing as satisfying as a good, old-fashioned hamburger. We’re talking about the *original* kind of burgers, with a well-seasoned patty, lettuce and tomato, a condiment or two, and a bun. Nothing more, nothing less. In Lima, Ohio, Kewpee Hamburgers has perfected the art of this American classic, with its eponymous Kewpee Burgers widely considered to be the best in the state!
Near the end of WWI, the first Kewpee Hamburger shop appeared in Flint, Michigan. A decade later, Hoyt F. "Stub" Wilson and his wife Julia built the first Kewpee location in Lima, Ohio.
As downtown Lima grew, so did the burger joint. This structure built in 1939 was one of the first buildings in Lima, Ohio, to have central air conditioning, and it quickly became a favorite town hub.
Nearly a century later, three Kewpee Hamburger shops remain -- and they are all located in Lima. These restaurants are a big point of town pride, in fact.
The diner's motto is "Hamburg, pickle on top, makes your heart go flippity-flop" -- and indeed, when you take a bite of these burgers, you might do a little dance!
The burgers are simple, yet oh-so-delicious. Order yours with cheese or au natural. Feel free to add things like lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, relish, or tartar sauce... or not. The choice is yours!
One choice you *must* make, however, is pie. There are all sorts of varieties, and there are no wrong choices! Fresh-baked and tantalizingly tasty, you'll be in a happy food coma after dining at Kewpee's.
Kewpee Hamburgers harkens back to another era; a time when kids would pile into diner booths and chat over hot burgers and hand-dipped milkshakes, plates of fries, and slices of pie.
