California is full of spectacular waterfalls both large and small. Each is beautiful in its own way, but there’s one world-famous waterfall that’s especially breathtaking. Yosemite Falls isn’t just one of the largest waterfalls in California, but all of North America. Seeing it with your own eyes is definitely a bucket list experience! For a thrilling adventure and one of the most breathtaking sights in the country, plan a visit to Yosemite National Park to see this incredible natural wonder.
It may not come as a surprise to learn that Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. After all, it's a major attraction within Yosemite National Park and it's considered one of the most stunning waterfalls in the world.
The breathtaking falls drop a total of 2,425 feet from the top of the upper fall to the base of the lower falls. Consisting of three sections, Yosemite Falls is truly a one-of-a-kind natural wonder.
Like all of Yosemite National Park, the falls are brilliant to behold year-round. Although, it becomes especially popular during late spring when water flow is at its peak. The falls typically cease flowing in late summer or fall.
Simply put, seeing this awe-inspiring cascade is an item that definitely belongs on your bucket list. Getting a view of Lower Yosemite Fall is easiest. The 320-foot drop is easily observed via a popular viewing area in the park. Additionally, Yosemite Creek flows from the base of the falls, flowing into the nearby Merced River.
Upper Yosemite Fall is arguably the most impressive section of the falls. Comprised of a 1,430-foot drop, this section makes up over half of the waterfall's total height. Trails in the park lead hikers up to both the base and top of the upper fall.
The middle falls are known as the Middle Cascades and they make up the waterfall's most elusive section. There aren't many ways that park visitors can easily access viewpoints of the middle falls and hiking to them is dangerous. Hikers who have tried in the past have required helicopter rescue due to the steep, rugged terrain.
Yosemite Falls is undeniably one of Northern California's greatest natural wonders. In fact, we'd even go as far as to say it's one of the world's great wonders! Make experiencing this stunning waterfall a priority and plan your trip to Yosemite to see it yourself.
