The Northern California Town That Transforms Into A Watermelon Wonderland Each Year
During the summertime, there isn’t a fruit that is more beloved than watermelon. It’s the perfect way to cool off on a hot day and it tastes absolutely delicious. This tasty summer treat is one of our favorite parts about the season! In fact, there are many watermelon festivals throughout the state that are perfect for consuming massive quantities of this refreshing fruit. One of these festivals is Slice of Chico. Located in the charming downtown area of Chico, this watermelon festival definitely belongs on your summer bucket list.
Once a year, downtown Chico turns into a watermelon wonderland. The town hosts many signature events, but one of the tastiest is Slice of Chico.
Slice of Chico is known throughout the community as a summertime tradition. The festival lures thousands of people into the downtown area for a day full of wonderful shopping opportunities, plenty of bargains, and all the watermelon-eating you can muster.
The best part of the festival are the "official" Watermelon Stations where you can pick up a slice or two (or many) of ice-cold, refreshing watermelon. The watermelon is completely free of charge and there's enough for you to binge on for the entire day!
During the festival, downtown Chico's charming shops and boutiques usually offer great specials, bargains, and entertainment. Restaurants also are known for offering watermelon-themed items. The goal is to eat as much watermelon as you can and then shop 'til you drop.
Slice of Chico gives you the perfect excuse to go out and explore one of the most charming downtown communities in Northern California. Mingle with other festival goers, eat watermelon, and be merry!
This year, the Slice of Chico festival takes place on July 13th and 14th, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This promises to be one of funnest events of the summer and it's an absolute must-do for Northern Californians.
