Northern California is so often associated with beaches, sunshine, and technology that it’s easy to overlook the fact that this half of the Golden State is home to some of the country’s coolest attractions. Even your tallest friends will feel tiny when driving through a sea of towering redwood trees. There are even trees so wide that a car can fit through a carved-out hole in the trunk. Now that's a one-of-a-kind photo op.

Experience the nautical life at this seafaring city with a spectacular waterfront. When you're done exploring the many lighthouses on display, you can even see sea lions at the Ocean World aquarium.
