Northern California has tons of beautiful restaurants with fancy exteriors, where you can spend a magical evening dining in plush, upscale surroundings. These 10 restaurants do not fit into that category. In fact, when you see the outside of these little spots, you might be tempted to keep moving along – they’re bland, boring and downright unassuming. But…the food here is delicious and the service is fabulous! If you’re just looking for a really tasty meal in a friendly restaurant, you really need to check these out.
Don't let the exterior of this quirky, eclectic place fool you - the food is amazing and the service is even better! Try the country-fried steak. 4745 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento
The exterior of this fun little spot doesn't do it justice! The restaurant has live music occasionally and the best sandwiches and burgers ever. We highly suggest the parm fries. 2968 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento.
Sure, it's not pretty. But college students love this place for its tasty comfort food, large portions and low, low prices. 275 E San Fernando Street, San Jose.
This little place is very unassuming, but you don't want to pass it by. The family-style dinner (order the fried chicken!) is soooo good. 511 Vance Avenue, Samoa.
The outside of this building is not very pretty, but the country-style breakfast is amazing! Fried chicken with eggs and hashbrowns...yum. 3378 Monterey Hwy., San Jose.
This unassuming little spot on the corner has been around forever; it still has the original counter! Breakfast is incredible here, but the burgers and sandwiches are pretty tasty, too. 2801 24th Street, San Francisco.
We don’t have room here to list all the unassuming restaurants in the northern portion of the state…so what did we miss? Let us know!
