Wellness Lovers Flock To This Tiny Northern California Town To Experience Its Healing Mineral Waters
There are many hot springs and spa resorts in Northern California, but the one in the tiny town of Bridgeport is extra special. Travertine Hot Springs in Bridgeport is in the middle of nowhere. You don’t need to book a room at the accompanying resort, just bring a towel to this healing mineral spring in Northern California.
Some visitors even rub the sulfur mud at the bottom of these pools onto their skin for extra healing and softening benefits.
The hot springs are located down a dirt road, several miles off of Highway 395. You don’t need a Jeep or a high clearance vehicle to access the springs, but make sure your car can handle some rough-ish terrain. From the parking lot it is a short walk to the springs.
The pools are different temperatures, due to their distance from the hot spring water bubbling up from below.
The hot pools are a nice and relaxing way to warm up while sitting outside in the snow. At an elevation of 6,700 feet, the area gets a heavy dousing of snow in the winter.
Be aware that the hot springs are untreated, so take extra precaution if you have open cuts, especially if you’re visiting with a lot of other tourists.
If you can’t make it to the hot springs, there is a small tub-sized hot spring right next to the parking lot. It’s ADA accessible, too.
These hot springs are not too far from Bodie Ghost Town, an incredibly well-preserved ghost town on the border of California and Nevada.
