10 Things That Will Always Make San Franciscans Think Of Home
Whenever you see or hear about these things you’ll instantly be reminded of San Francisco. The city by the bay has a powerful hold on our conscious if you visit, work in the city, and especially if you live here. Enjoy these splendid things that remind many of San Francisco.

The most well-known fog in the world is from San Francisco. The fog here has it's own name (it's Karl, by the way)! In all seriousness, San Francisco's fog is one of the more predictable and defining characteristics of what we like to call "Fog City."
2. Nature and parks
The natural beauty of San Francisco is immediately evident. Also, what other city can boast a park as beautiful as the Presidio? With only 49 square miles to work with, San Francisco has managed to squeeze in over 220 parks throughout the city.
3. Incredible food
Gourmet food of any kind is associated with San Francisco. Whether it’s a fat burrito, creative cuisine, a vegan cupcake, tasty Indian/Pakistani food, and of course artisanal pastries like Kouign Amann —San Francisco will have it. For a city only 7 by 7 miles, SF has a plethora of choices to eat.
4. Cable Cars and Streetcars
Cable cars and streetcars are another clear connection to the city. Yes, this is an icon of the city and it brings people joy. The cable car system of the city is operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway. This is the ultimate San Francisco experience!
5. Individuality and self expression
The intense zeal to be yourself is uniquely San Francisco, so individuality is a SF thing. From the Gold Rush to the Summer of Love, San Francisco has always attracted the weirdest and the wildest and most individualistic people, as well as some of the most revolutionary and innovative souls.
6. Sourdough bread
Why? Because dating back to the Gold Rush, this has been the prime sustenance for San Franciscans. Natural yeasts and bacteria in the air are used for fermentation, so this bread makes us think of Fog City.
7. Classic and influential music
San Francisco has a rich history for music. The most popular and world changing music from the city was from the 1960s and 1970s featuring hippie and psychedelic styles.
8. Art and culture
Outside of New York, San Francisco is active in the arts historically. San Franciscans are ardent fans of music, art, culture, and more, so this is something they can't live without.
9. World class and iconic bridges
This is obvious. The Golden Gate bridge is one of the most recognizable attractions. The Golden Gate Bridge has been described as the most beautiful and most photographed bridge in the world. Also, the Bay bridge is not shabby either.
The mere mention of earthquakes triggers thoughts for some of the 1989 earthquake, or numerous small quakes. Many people know about the 1906 earthquake that destroyed a lot of the city as well. The reputation of earthquakes and the city is strong. A trembler is enough to scare some sense into anyone and San Francisco is very well-known for them. How tough are you to stay in the city?
