Stephanie is a freelance writer and editor based in San Francisco, California. When she's not tapping at a keyboard, she can be found leading groups on gourmet chocolate walking tours (best job ever) or running the many lovely hills and stairs of the city (to burn off all that chocolate, of course). She also runs a travel blog with her husband at Big & Small Travel (bigandsmalltravel.com).
With just a little bit of effort, you can enjoy some pretty epic scenery throughout the entire city limits of San Francisco. But there are a few key spots worthy of singling out, and we’ve got one easy hike (less than a mile with only one mini hill!) in San Francisco that will lead you to an unforgettable lookout point with a very cool (and calming) surprise at the end. Here’s how you’ll find it.
This hike starts on the far western end of town at Lands End. We recommend making a quick stop at the Cliff House for some prime ocean views, then taking a peek into the Camera Obscura, where you can see a 360-degree image of the Seal Rock area right outside.
This labyrinth was first created by artist Eduardo Aguilera in 2004. After a vandal destroyed it, a group of local volunteers rebuilt it in 2015. If the sight of the Golden Gate Bridge doesn’t leave you in total awe, walking the stone-guided paths of this creation—with the waves crashing below—will at least bring you some much-needed serenity.
