A Drive Down San Francisco’s Loneliest Road Will Take You Miles And Miles Away From It All

San Francisco can be stressful because of the traffic and booming economy. If you want to take a drive on “The Loneliest Road In America” then you’re in luck. Why? Because Route 1 expands through a lot of the major areas of California. At a total of just over 655.8 miles, Route 1 is the longest state route in California. If you’re into weekend drives or road tripping, it’s the perfect route to take anytime you just need a good, long drive or just get away.

Route 1 is a north-south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. This road has a little bit of everything.

California State Route 1 is designated as an All-American Road. This road can be a perfect road to drive and get away with ease.

The road passes through remote and populated areas and can be busy and of course quiet. However, the road is always beautiful and majestic with or without traffic.

Highway 1 goes along the coast of the San Francisco Peninsula, through Año Nuevo State Reserve, and the historic Pigeon Point Lighthouse, before reaching Half Moon Bay.

Take the time to check out the area south of Half Moon Bay off Route 1. Desert Beach is a pristine beach that is ideal for a quick getaway from San Francisco.

HIghway 1 winds along the Marin County coast. This is a part of the highway that takes you along the beauty of the Pacific.

Take a look at this wonderful video that shows the California coast on the Shoreline Highway of Route 1. The entire series begins in San Francisco at the Golden Gate Bridge, and ends at Leggett, where Highway 1 ends at US 101.
