The Dogpatch neighborhood is located on the eastern side of San Francisco, next to the waterfront, and to the east of Potrero Hill. Its boundaries are Mariposa Street to the north, I-280 to the west, Cesar Chavez to the south.
The Dogpatch area is closely tied to Potrero Hill. However, today it has an identity and name for itself.
The name "Dogpatch" was first used for this area of San Francisco before World War II. It may have derived from various sources pertaining to the actual presence of stray dogs in the past to the remote and neglected history here as well.
