11 Things San Franciscans Do That Seem Insane To Everyone Else
San Franciscans are a pretty eclectic bunch all in all. The reputation of San Francisco is often varied depending who you ask too. So, what are the things San Franciscans do that generally seem batty? Let’s take a look at 11 things San Franciscans do that seem insane to everyone else.

San Franciscans can talk for hours about rent. Everything in a pricey town can be related back to the absurd rent prices, so once you leave you're scarred. So, the only thing to do is to stay in this beautiful town because it is worth it!

San Franciscans take every opportunity to dress up, and they will never pass it up. Of course not all San Franciscans enjoy this, but this is the reputation of Fog City. Name a city festival and expect to see some wild outfits in town.

Pets, especially dogs, are important for many Americans, but in San Francisco we more than adore dogs. San Francisco has more dogs than children. According to the Census and Animal Care and Control department data, San Francisco has around 10,000 more dogs than children. Wow!

A true San Franciscan will tell you, "If you don't like the weather, just walk a few miles." The longer you live here, the more attuned you'll be to the warm and cold spots around the city. Due to the city's varied topography and influence from the marine layer, weather conditions can vary by as much as 9 degrees from block to block. Also, the fog has a name and it's Karl.

San Franciscans like to tout the history of public transportation especially considering the lack of it in much of California. Beware though because Bart and Muni are often plagued with frequent delays due to increased traffic, older equipment, and poor maintenance. Still, San Franciscans will tell you that public transportation is vital!

Despite steep hills, San Franciscans love their bicycles with a deep passion. There are few other cities that have such a love for bikes.

San Francisco is known for artisanal coffee, chocolate, bread, and countless other things. It seems only Portland takes anything "artisanal" as the holy grail. San Franciscans love their food done in a very specific way.

Outside of perhaps New York City or Los Angeles, San Franciscans take Asian food very seriously. The clear favorite being Chinese, but SF has many different options, from Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese and more. San Franciscans will judge you more harshly on the authenticity of Asian food more than you'd think!

Earthquakes are a part of life in California, but a San Franciscan is not too spooked by a shake or tremble. However, everyone feels the anxiety of the big one. Between the earthquake retrofitting and talk of seismic activity, San Franciscans know how to relax even in the face of mother nature.

There's no doubt about it - San Franciscans keep an open mind.

Lines annoy most folk, but If there is one thing people in Fog City tolerate, it’s standing in line. For pastries, burritos, coffee, and especially brunch!
