You Won't Want To Miss This Epic Celebration In San Francisco This Summer

The 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love is being celebrated throughout the year in San Francisco. Why? In 1967, San Francisco was at that time the most publicized location for the explosion of a social movement. Before the Summer of Love it was the the Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park in January 1967 that popularized hippie culture, leading to the legendary Summer of Love. Let’s learn more about the celebrations going on for the 50th anniversary of this historical event in San Francisco.
As many as 100,000 people, some showcasing the hippie fashions of the 1960s, united and celebrated in Haight-Ashbury.
The central location for the Summer of Love in San Francisco was the junction of Haight and Ashbury Streets. Today, this is still a celebrated and touristic attraction for locals and visitors.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love at the Haight Ashbury Street Festival on June 11. This festival includes live music, local foods, and dance in the same streets where the Summer of Love started.
There will be a special celebration of San Francisco’s counterculture featuring the Summer of Love and more at the de Young Museum. The exhibition will go through August 20.
The Summer of Love was related with local and influential bands from the 1960s, like the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.

If you're interested in learning about the history leading up to the Summer of Love then check out an exhibition at the California Historical Society at 678 Mission St, San Francisco, 94105 This exhibition runs until -September 10 and features a lot of relics from the 1960s.
There will a celebration of Summer of Love at the Stern Grove Festival at 2750 19th Avenue in San Francisco. This is an annual event featuring an eclectic mix of Bay Area musicians. The events will be happening regularly between June 25 -Aug. 27.
Make sure at some point this year to celebrate the spirit of Summer of Love with events, exhibits and concerts all over the city.
