Lobos Creek Valley Trail is a rare entity in the city. Before becoming a bustling city we know today, a large part of the city was made up of coastal sand dunes. Today, this area of sand dunes is now a hike and historical area, and could be the easiest and least crowded hike in the city. If you want to do a quick easy hike during the winter then this is perfect and easily accessible!
Lobos Creek Valley Trail is located at 1750 Lincoln Blvd, San Francisco, 94129 in the Presidio. Start the trail at Lincoln (A) as it is listed on the map.
The hike brings you through restored dunes and forest in the Presidio. Experience a bit of San Francisco's lost natural heritage through this hike too.
Take the time to read the interpretive markers along the way to learn about how SF used to be mostly San Dunes before they planted trees. This is one of the few hikes that is also a learning experience.
The trail is just under a mile and mainly a flat boardwalk. The trail snakes through renewed habitat like native plants and the elegant trees of the Presidio.
In 1995 to 1996, the dunes were restored and the valley was graded and landscaped. The boardwalk near the Lincoln Boulevard side of the trail takes visitors through the valley, all the while protecting delicate vegetation.

When you are near the end of the hike then end at Lobos Valley Overlook. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Pacific Ocean, so visit this place asap!
