Hiding near the town of Oroville is a heavenly hike that has remained one of Northern California's best-kept secrets. The hike to Phantom Falls is stunning, but just wait until you reach the end. You won't believe your eyes.
Phantom Falls is also known as Coal Canyon Falls. This hidden spot is located on North Table Mountain and it's accessed via a moderate six-mile hike. The trail can be hard to find and even harder to follow, but you'll realize that it was totally worth it once you reach the spectacular beauty that is Phantom Falls.
In fact, there's no actual trail to the waterfall. However, you'll find a parking lot on Cherokee Road that provides access to hikers. From here, you'll travel northwest until you reach the falls. A GPS or map is highly recommended, and you can access a trail map here.
As you traverse the "trail", you'll find yourself meandering within the stunning meadows of Table Mountain. Visiting during wildflower season is a must since this is when the landscape erupts in a beautiful array of bright colors.
