11 Epic Outdoorsy Things Anyone In Northern California Can Do
Not everyone around here wants to enter a decathlon. Some of us like a few tamer and more peaceful outdoorsy things. This list below will give you lots of ideas in case you’re tired of doing the same old outdoor activities over and over. And we’ve thrown in some of the old standards as well, just for good measure.
There's more than one way to have fun on the river. Slap on some sunscreen, put some soda in a floating cooler and head to the river. Make sure it's not whitewater though...that could be a little dangerous.
Interested in working hands-on with birds of prey? Then head over to Marysville and check out West Coast Falconry. These gorgeous predators are nothing to scoff at. They're amazing and only the best of the best can learn the ways of the wild. Are you up for the challenge?
Feel like a modern-day treasure hunter and geocache for a while. Sure, the trinkets you find aren't solid gold, but it's the joy of the hunt, right? Plus, you get the added benefit of hiking without even thinking about it.
4. Target Practice
There are a lot of spots in Northern California where you can learn to shoot a handgun. Down Range Indoor Training Center in Garner is one of them.
In desperate need of a little peace and quiet? Kayaking is what you need. Breathe in the fresh air and glide along listening to nature serenade you. I'll meet you there.
6. Take A hike
There are literally hundreds and maybe even thousands of trails that weave through Northern California. Call a friend and get outside. A hike will put lots of things into perspective.
7. Skip rocks
Channel your inner child and skip a few. Seriously! Sit alongside the water's edge and skip a dozen rocks. Makes things a lot better now, doesn't it?
Have you ever tried archery? This is one fun sport. There's quite a few spots around NORCAL that offer this kind of entertainment. Grab your other half and do something a little different.
9. Go fly a kite!
Bring the kids and show them how much fun you had BEFORE technology took over. This time of year is always breezy in the Bay Area. Or, there's the San Ramon Art & Wind Festival May 29th & 30th. The festival is BYOK (Bring Your Own Kite).
10. Have a picnic
Enjoying some epic outdoor time doesn't have to be complicated. Grab a few snacks from home and a blanket and book. Voila! Instant epic afternoon.
11. Read a book in the sunshine
Is your life full of drama? Read about someone else's instead. When was the last time you read a great book? Extra points if you bring your book to the beach.
Part of a happy life is really enjoying those things you don’t get to do very often. Instead of kicking yourself for missed opportunities, how about opening your eyes to the little things? They say that actually those little things are the best things of all.
