small. However, it is certainly bursting with small town charm. This scenic mountain town is truly special, attracting visitors all year long. It's most well-known for being in such close proximity to Northern California's crown jewel, Lake Tahoe. 1. Tahoe Treetop Adventure Parks
This Tahoe-based adventure company is located just outside of Truckee and gives visitors the opportunity to experience the wilderness in a truly unique way. 2. Donner Memorial State Park
Also located just outside of Truckee is Donner Memorial State Park. This is by far one of the finest state parks in the state with hiking trails, campgrounds, boating, fishing, and access to Donner Lake. In the winter time it's a popular area for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. This historical park is both a memorial to those who emigrated to California in the mid 1800s and one of the most pristine nature spots in the state.
3. Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is definitely the most obvious attraction on this list. Many use Truckee as a base camp while adventuring at Tahoe during the day. The largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada, Tahoe is probably California's most beloved lake. The Truckee River is one of the town's most incredible natural attractions. With a laid-back atmosphere and impeccable trails, this place is a paradise for powderhounds.
6. Castle Peak
Castle Peak is one of the most popular peaks at Donner Summit. The area offers endless hiking and biking trails, along with skiing opportunities in the winter. Reaching the summit of Castle Peak is a must for any die hard outdoorsman. The peak is popular both because of its easily accessible location off of I-80 and the fact that it can be climbed any time of the year.
