Bidwell Park is a hot-spot of recreation located in Chico, California. The park is divided into two, with the area west of Manzanita Avenue referred to as the Lower Park and the area to the east referred to as the Middle and Upper Park.
It's in the Upper park that you'll find one of the community's most treasured gems—Bear Hole. This natural swimming hole has been a popular spot among Chico residents for decades, and it's easy to see why.
Accessing Bear Hole is pretty easy. There is a substantial parking lot located nearby and the hike down to the swimming hole is short and sweet. You'll come across some steep sections but the trail is nicely outlined so you shouldn't have trouble finding the place.
Once you see Bear Hole, you'll understand why this is the "go-to spot" for many. Although it's easy to find, the area feels nice and secluded. The swimming hole is part of Big Chico Creek which becomes deep enough in late spring and summer to become a pretty awesome place to swim around.
The swimming hole is entirely surrounded by massive rocks and thrill-seekers use them to jump into the water from. Others simply enjoy stretching out on the rocks to sunbathe.
