Ready to escape the city and head into the hills? Mount Shasta is the best place for it. Every from extreme sports enthusiasts to family vacationers and retirees are choosing this destination as the premier vacation spot in California.
Shasta and the surrounding areas are one of the fastest growing vacation destinations in the county for everyone from campers to luxurious resort dwellers.
It's easy to see why. This place is incredibly beautiful. Whether you come for the scenery, the opportunities for recreation, or just to have a break from your daily life, this place is awesome.
It was originally inhabited by the Native Americans of the Shasta, Klamath, Pit, Modoc and Wintu Native American tribes who utilized the abundant natural resources of the Mount Shasta area.
Later, Europeans arrived around 1840 to hunt and trap animals for their fur. Today, the area relies primarily on tourism, but the communities located in these mountains are gems all on their own.
Other people come to swim in the many chilly swimming holes or view gorgeous waterfalls. There's also Shasta Lake, which is an unbelievably stunning body of water.
