What are the best Northern California trails?

Northern California has some of the best hiking, biking, and walking trails in the nation. Whenever we need to get some fresh air, we like to head out along the coast and take in some of our state's natural beauty. Here are a few of the best Northern California trails for an outdoor adventure:

  • California Coastal Trail, Crescent City, CA: Taking this trail to Enderts Beach in the Redwood National Forest is an epic adventure filled with beauty. It is only about 1.3 miles in length but the coastal views are breathtaking. The trail winds along the coast high up on the bluffs, but then heads down to a lovely secluded beach.
  • Truckee River Trail, Truckee, CA: In the Tahoe National Forest you'll find this fantastic paved bike and walking trail. It follows along the Truckee River for about ten miles, making it the perfect trail for a bike ride with the fam, a nice jog with beautiful river views, or a leisurely walk on a relaxing weekend.
  • Kehoe Beach Trail, Point Reyes National Seashore: A walk along the beach is just about the perfect way to spend some time in Northern California and this lovely out-and-back beach trail takes you over about 2.5 miles of sandy terrain. Leash up your dog, take the kids for a walk, or stroll along the beach as the sun sets with that special someone.
  • Bailey Cove Loop Trail, Bailey Cove, CA: Shasta-Trinity National Forest is one of the most beautiful areas of Northern California. And, Shasta Lake with its calm turquoise waters is amazing set against the old-growth pine forest and sand dunes that line the shore. This moderately difficult trail is great for mountain biking as well as hiking.
