There Are Sand Dunes In Northern California That Looks Just Like Imperial Sand Dunes, But Hardly Anyone Knows They Exist

Californians love to say that any landscape you enjoy can be found in California. And this is just another example of that! Ten Mile Dunes are coastal dunes located north of Fort Bragg in Mendocino County.

There are famous dunes in Southern California– the Imperial Dunes where visitors can ride dune buggies and go four-wheeling. These Northern California sand dunes are a more relaxed version of that experience.

These sand dunes are located in a sensitive habitat so you can’t take an ATV here but you can go sand sledding and jump over the dunes.
You can also hike along the beach, collect sand dollars, and play in the sand.

If you’ve never jumped over a sand dune, don’t underestimate how insanely fun it is!
It’s totally possible you won’t see many people when you visit, as this place is still a hidden gem.

Located next to Ten Mile Beach, you can visit the dunes and beach in one fun-filled trip!
Some of the dunes are around 130-feet tall and a mile wide. Visitors say you’ll feel like you’re on a beautiful alien planet while exploring these dunes.

The dunes are not 10 miles long, but still stretch quite a ways parallel to the beach.
These pristine sand dunes are also a great place to bird watch.

Despite this area looking desert-like, it is teeming with flora and fauna. A real nature-lover's dream!
As you might imagine walking in sand is a workout and walking through dunes is even more challenging, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing.

Even though this is a cold beach, you might want to bring flip-flops and a towel so you can stick your feet in the ocean water and dry off.
