Joanne is a fourth-generation Northern Californian. She knows good sour dough bread when she tastes it and understands the best parts of the Golden State are nowhere near Los Angeles.
We admit it. Living in Northern California has ruined us for anyplace else. It’s more than just one thing. It’s a whole bunch of things. Sure, we know we have the rest of the country beat when it comes to weather. As a matter of fact, we watch the national news and wonder what in the world you’re thinking and why you haven’t moved here yet. We’re incredibly intelligent and are a bit snobby when it comes to good food. We expect it to be fresh and home grown. We’ve been raised this way.
Then there’s the culture here. It’s off the charts. We’ve given the world music and writers and more talent than you can believe.
For those of you who don’t understand us out here, we thought we’d share a few reasons why we’d never, ever leave.
Is there any argument here? With hundreds of miles of coastline, we don't have to fight the crowds and God loves us best and keeps the temps at a comfortable number all year long.
Yoda lives here. The birthplace of Star Wars is in Marin County at LucasFilms. George Lucas is also a fan of this part of the state. He was born and raised in Modesto.
If Yoda isn't enough, there's Mr. Zuckerberg, the face of Facebook. The creator and King of the Social Media Scene. Because of this guy you can stalk your ex without fear of a restraining order.
As if we haven't proven our point with technology yet, how about Google? It was created by a few brilliant PhD students at Stanford. We'll be nice and not hurt your feelings with an Apple iPhone image. We're humble like that.
Small towns are everywhere around here. How about one of our favorites: Nevada City - one of the most charming towns this side of the Mississippi. You should see her at Christmas time!
Small cities have been the birthplace of celebrities like Tom Hanks, who grew up in the east bay and caught the acting bug while attending Sacramento State. You're welcome, world!
An artist who loved Yosemite more than most. He was born in San Francisco and could probably be called the greatest lover of Northern California nature - ever.
Alfred Hitchcock filmed "The Birds" here, too. Years ago, movie makers flocked to this area because of the long sunny days and glorious weather conditions.
Fresh, homegrown and amazing. It's why we call it "California Cuisine." Because we're just that awesome.
There’s no way we could ever, ever include all the reasons we’ve been ruined for anywhere else. Help us out and share why Northern California has ruined you in the comments below!
