Indulge in some good old-fashioned fun when you visit this historic farm in Fremont, California. Ardenwood Historic Farm is much more than a historical landmark. It's also a family attraction that boasts endless fun.
Upon arriving at this beautiful farmstead, you'll feel as if you've actually traveled 150 years back in time. Complete with a gorgeous Victorian mansion, manicured lawns, and elaborate gardens, it feels as if time stands still at this incredible farm.
The farm's history dates back to the 1850s. Originally owned by George and Clara Patterson, the farm was officially turned over to the City of Fremont in 1978. It's been operating as a fully functioning, turn-of-the-century farm ever since!
Yes, Ardenwood is an actual working farm. This means that daily activities change from season to season, ensuring that every time you visit is different from the last. One thing is for sure, though—there's always fun to be had at the farm.
One of the farm's most notable attractions is the train which is operated by Ardenwood's Railroad Museum. The train performs scheduled rides to and from Ardenwood and Deer Park Stations on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Board the train and you'll be welcomed by staff and docents dressed in period garb. It definitely feels like something straight from a different era! The ride will take you through farm fields and wooded areas before dropping you off at the farmyard.
Of course, no visit to the farm is complete without a look at the farm animals. Ardenwood is home to plenty of adorable animals, including sheep, pigs, turkeys, goats, cows, chickens, and more.
Other notable attractions include a Victorian-era garden, the Patterson House, and vintage farm equipment. Farm staff are regularly on-site to give guided tours of the farmstead and give you a taste of what life was like in the early 1900s.
