Northern California is home to a wide variety of landscapes where fall foliage can be found, from coastal areas to the Sierra Nevadas. This is great when it comes to diversity of scenery, but it also means that you can expect the different regions of NorCal to peak at different times.
The map shown above represents the week of October 12-19. As you can see, there's a vast difference in where you'll be able to see fall colors during this week.
Using the interactive map, you can tell exactly where fall foliage in NorCal will peak first and where it will peak last. Adjust the slider to the week of October 19-26 and you'll see that Gold Country and the Sierras are either at "peak" or "past peak," whereas the rest of NorCal is still at "partial."
According to the map, the northeast region of California will be past peak by October 26th. During this same time period, the northwest and Bay Area will at near peak, eventually reaching full peak the week of November 2-9.
