There are multiple areas throughout our state that offer amazing wildflower scenery, but few are as mesmerizing as Point Reyes National Seashore. Point Reyes is vast, encompassing 71,028 acres of preserved land. Therefore, you can view different wildflowers in a variety of habitats including grasslands, coastal bluffs, forests, marshes, and more.
The time of year the wildflowers begin to bloom depends on a variety of factors. However, the best time to see them is generally March through May. Many wildflowers continue to bloom as late as August.
Any of the hiking trails in Point Reyes will lead you to views of gorgeous displays of wildflowers. The Chimney Rock Trail is a popular option for hikers because it's less than 2 miles long and leads you to cliffs overlooking Drakes Bay.
Another popular option is the hike to Abbotts Lagoon. This easy 2.3-mile hike has it all. It only takes about an hour to complete and you'll find yourself meandering across creek beds, boardwalks, and bridges, all while taking in the stunning wildflower-covered scenery.
The amount of wildflowers is too many to name. The most abundant flowers you'll come across are Douglas irises, paintbrush, California poppies, lupines, and gold fields.
Point Reyes is by far one of the most breathtaking scenes in Northern California, so it's a real treat to see the preserve blanketed in a variety of vibrant flowers. This is definitely a must-see for everyone.
