When it comes to Northern California’s most picturesque destinations, Point Reyes National Seashore is a top contender. Boasting scenery that’s filled with rocky headlands, sandy beaches, open grasslands, and rich hillsides, visiting this destination feels like stepping into a natural haven. There’s a lot to see in this heavenly region of NorCal, but the Cypress Tree Tunnel is considered one of the area’s most iconic tourist spots. The stunning tree tunnel is a natural wonder that everybody should see with their own eyes. Pictures of this place are always spectacular, but nothing compares to seeing it for yourself!
There are a lot of magnificent sights within Point Reyes National Seashore, but the Cypress Tree Tunnel is by far one of the most popular. As one of the most photographed places in the area, this spot is hard to beat when it comes to natural beauty!
The tunnel isn't an official landmark within the park, but you can receive plenty of information on it at the park's visitor center. It's one of the main sights located between the iconic Point Reyes Lighthouse and the visitor center, so finding it is typically pretty easy.
You'll find the tunnel off of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Driving down this road, you'll follow the signs that point you toward the lighthouse until you see a sign for "North District Operation Center." Turn right here and follow the road .25 miles north to the parking lot for the tunnel.
You'll find the parking lot on the left at the far end of the driveway that goes through the tunnel. Please, do NOT park along the driveway, especially on the roots of these historic and beautiful trees. Unfortunately, many visitors have caused damage to the roots by parking on them, so please be mindful when visiting this beautiful destination.
Once you've parked, you can get out of the car and truly witness the outstanding beauty of the Cypress Tree Tunnel. Planted around 1930, the Monterey cypress trees that create this "tunnel" truly live up to the hype.
At the end of the driveway is an old building that contains the Historic KPH Maritime Radio Receiving Destination. This is definitely a cool spot to check out, as it still contains original radio equipment that is currently used to broadcast on numerous frequencies, including KPH.
The ever-popular Cypress Tree Tunnel is one of those spots that definitely lives up to the numerous amazing photographs you've probably seen of it. If you have yet to see this natural wonder firsthand, consider it high time that you do!
