The holidays are quickly approaching and all of Northern California’s one-time-a-year events are in full force. Magical lighting displays, train rides to the North Pole, even entire towns turn into holiday wonderlands during this time of year. There’s one town in Northern California that even turns into a scene out of “The Christmas Carol.” For the month of December, Nevada City turns into a literal Christmas Village with all the fun and festivities you could dream of!
Every year, the quaint town of Nevada City hosts their "Victorian Christmas" celebration. Throughout the month of December leading up to Christmas, the town looks like something straight out of a holiday movie.
Nevada City is the place to be during the holidays! The town comes alive with joyful energy. Victorian Christmas events are held on certain days throughout the month in which vendors, performers, and carolers line the streets.
There's nothing like the smell of roasted chestnuts in the air to get you in the mood for the holidays.
Locals go all out for this festival by dressing up in authentic Dickens-esque garb. You'll feel as if you've been transported back to Victorian times.
Victorian singers, brass bands, and bagpipers provide traditional holiday music and bring Christmas cheer to all who can hear.

Nevada City attracts hundreds of visitors during this time of year. Parking can get tricky, but a shuttle service from the Nevada County Government Center is provided. The shuttle is $5 for anyone ages 15 and up and free for anybody younger than 15.
Dozens of vendors sell their enchanting Christmas treasures on the streets.

The festival is even more magical when the city gets treated to the sight of snow.
